Terms of Use

These terms apply to the Smart Scan AI website at smartscanai.online (the "Site"). By using the Site you accept them. If you do not accept them, please do not use the Site. The Android app is covered by its own Google Play terms in addition to these.

1. What the Site is

The Site is a set of free tools that read and create QR codes and barcodes. Every tool runs in your browser. The data you type, the images you choose and the codes you generate are processed on your own device and are not uploaded to us. We keep no copy of them, because we never receive them.

2. No account, no charge

The tools require no account, no email address and no payment. We may add paid features in future, but anything described as free on the day you use it is free on that day.

3. Your data and the codes you create

Whatever you enter remains yours. The codes you generate are yours to use for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, with no attribution required and no licence fee. We claim no rights over them.

Scan history is stored by your browser on your device. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and we cannot recover it for you, because we never had it.

4. How you may not use the Site

• Do not use it to create codes that lead to malware, to phishing pages, or to content that is illegal where you or your audience are.
• Do not use it to impersonate another person or organisation.
• Do not attempt to disrupt the Site, overload it, or work around a limit built into a tool.
• Do not alter or hide parts of the Site in order to present it as your own service.

5. Test before you print

This matters more than anything else on this page. A QR code or barcode can be generated correctly and still fail in the real world, because of the printed size, the contrast, the surface it is on, the scanning distance, a logo covering too much of it, or a scanner that only supports a different symbology. Always scan a printed proof with the devices your audience will actually use, before you order a print run, print labels, or publish a code.

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that a generated code will be readable by any specific device, that the Site will be available without interruption, or that it will be free of errors.

6. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the Site, including the cost of reprinting materials, lost business, or loss of data. The Site is free, and you use it at your own discretion and risk.

7. Third-party services and links

The Site uses third-party components in order to work, and uses Google Analytics to measure usage, as described in our Privacy Policy. It may link to other sites, including the Google Play listing for our app. We are not responsible for the content or the practices of sites we link to.

8. Advertising

The Site may display third-party advertising. Where it does, the advertising is labelled as such and kept separate from the tools themselves. Advertising never receives the data you enter into a tool, because that data never leaves your browser.

9. Our own material

The name Smart Scan AI, the logo, the page text and the design of the Site belong to us. The open-source libraries the Site uses remain under their own licences.

10. Changes and availability

We may change these terms, change a tool, or withdraw a tool at any time. Changes take effect when they are posted on this page. We may also stop operating the Site altogether; because nothing you create is stored with us, there is nothing held on our side for you to lose if we do.
